Ask any nutritionist, fitness expert or weight-loss ‘guru’ and they will all tell you that chocolate is bad for you. They will praise the ‘eat clean’ method of eating, tell you to cut out carbs and sugars, and for heaven sakes stay away from chocolate!

While it’s certainly true that eating right and exercising is a great way to live, indulging every once in a while won’t hurt – in fact, it can be extremely satisfying and good for your overall health. In small amounts, like chocolate gold coins, for instance, treats can give you the mental boost you need. Here are just some reasons you may want to treat yourself:

  • Stress-relief: Are you having a bad day at work? Did you just have a fight with your spouse or kids? Did your car break down again? Are you wondering how on earth you’re going to get through the day or the week or even the month? Sit down, take a deep breath and grab a piece of chocolate. Do some deep breathing exercises, or write in your journal while you’re savoring the flavor.
  • Relaxing after a long week: Friday has finally arrived and you just want to curl up in your favorite chair in front of the TV with a glass of wine, right? Well, go ahead, you deserve it! While you’re sipping wine, grab a piece of chocolate too.
  • Reward for your hard work: Did you just finish a huge project at work that you’re immensely proud of? Did you just write an exam you’ve been studying for all semester long? There’s nothing like chocolate as a reward for your hard work.

This doesn’t mean that you indulge every day or eat an entire plateful of chocolate gold coins every day; but a few mouthfuls here and there won’t hurt and can help give you a mental pick-me-up when you need it.
