Student housing in Baton Rouge isn’t free–and while renting an apartment is a great way to get some life experience, you’ll have to figure out how you’re going to pay rent while you’re going to college. Some people manage to juggle a full-time job while they’re completing their degree, but this isn’t for everyone. Here’s how you can pay rent while you’re living in a student apartment.

What Are Your Options for Paying Rent?

  1. Pay out-of-pocket. Many people don’t have this option, but if your family is willing to pay for your housing or you’ve got enough money saved up, take advantage of this opportunity to avoid going into debt.
  2. Pay with a credit card. This is one of the easiest ways to pay rent, but keep in mind that you’ll have to pay it all back later–with interest.
  3. Pay with your financial aid. If you’re getting student loans, you might be able to use a portion of your financial aid to cover your housing costs.
  4. Pay with a scholarship. You might be able to use some of your scholarship money to pay rent as well.
  5. Use a combination of these. It’s best to pay out-of-pocket as much as possible because that’s less money that you’ll have to pay after you graduate. Many people use a combination of savings, scholarships and loans to pay their rent every month.
