Moving can be a very overwhelming process. You’re sure to be busy between packing up your entire home, saying goodbye to close family and friends, and researching local movers. Huntsville residents should be aware of some of the easiest moving mistakes before they embark on the process, however, so they can be sure they’re not losing time or money. Keep on reading for some of the most common moving mistakes.

Overestimating Your Own Abilities
Even if you’re in great shape and are only moving down the street, the process can be incredibly complicated. There are a huge number of pitfalls you could be looking at, including potential injuries, damage to household items, and unexpected fuel costs. No matter what you think, a DIY move constantly proves to be less cheap and easy than you initially thought it to be. Give yourself time to thoroughly research the process and hire professional movers if need be.

Forgetting About “Rush Hours”
Many Huntsville homeowners may not be aware of the “rush hour” of moving season, as most of us don’t know about it until we experience it ourselves. Almost 40 million Americans move every year, and many of them do so in the late spring and summer. Reputable moving companies can get booked out for these months very early, so make sure to call in time! Give yourself about 3 or 4 months before the move-in date to start interviewing companies and get everything organized.

Forgetting to Request an Estimate from Movers
In the same way that you wouldn’t buy a house or a car without knowing its cost, you shouldn’t work with a moving company before knowing what the final bill will look like. Most companies offer either binding or nonbinding estimated. Nonbinding estimates will give you an idea of the cost of your move. You’ll get the number in writing and can be charged up to 10% more based on certain factors. With a binding estimate, you legally cannot be charged more unless you add on other services. Most expert recommend getting three different estimates to make sure you’re getting the best deal.
