Customized promo items are a great way to advertise your business with relatively low cost, big pay off, and by making customers and potential customers feel as though their business is appreciated. After all, who doesn’t ‘like getting something neat just for shopping at your business or using your services? Unfortunately, many businesses make the costly mistake of not understanding the needs of their consumers, which can result in promo items being tossed away rather than used by consumers. Here are some general guidelines to keep in mind when choosing which customized promo items to order.

Your Staff

Promo apparel customized with your logo and business information should be worn by staff at all tradeshows and promotional events. This ensures that your team can be readily identified by members of the public, and presents a professional, uniform look. Not only does this make your business appear streamlined and coherent, it removes the risk that employees will unintentionally wear something inappropriate or offensive to these types of events. One idea is to purchase promo t-shirts or hoodies, and request that all staff present at the event wear coordinating pants or shorts. Depending on the circumstance, promo ball caps may also come in handy.

Your Fellow Professionals

Other business owners and executives will get more use out of classier, top of the line promotional items, such as leather bags or engraved executive pens over cheaper items or various apparel. When selecting promo items for your peers, be sure to keep their interests in mind. The goal is to present them with an item that will see a lot of use, but which also bears your company’s information prominently, encouraging them to recommend you to others and to keep your business in the forefront of their minds.

Your Consumers

When handing out promotional items to your consumers, keep in mind the type of business you operate and try to order items in keeping with that. For example, if you run an online store, things like USB drives and mouse pads are excellent options. These items are kept close to the computer, and can be referred to when the consumer is ordering those products. If you run a bar, give away bottle openers and coasters to ensure your customers think of your business each time they grab a drink.

Your Student Volunteers

If you run the type of business likely to have students as volunteers, it’s a good idea to give them something they will use in their every day lives. Items like pens, USB drives, and notebooks will go a long way to advertising and promoting your business among their peers.
