When it comes to your home, you certainly want it to look as great as possible and that is why you will do anything you can to make this happen. Hardwood floors in this regard, can be a great touch in any room of your home so if you would like to tackle with their DIY project, then you’ll find that prefinished boards are a great shortcut to take. Below this article will focus on some of the steps you’ll need to take so that your hardwood floor installation project is a success.

1. First of all, you’ll have to pull up your carpets or soft flooring to get prepared for the hardwood floors. You should consider starting from a corner by making use of a pry bar or pliers. If you have tack bar installed, then you should carefully remove it and after taking out the carpet, remove any leftover staples. To pull them out, you should use pliers, but be careful so that you won’t hurt yourself.

2. If your carpets have been glued down, then you’ll need to use a special solvent to remove residue. Next, you’ll need to sweep the floor and install the oriented strand board on your subfloor. This is a layer that is a much more affordable alternative to plywood, so when attaching OSB to the sub-flooring, you can just make use of a regular staple gun.

3. At this point you’ll have to cover the OSB by laying down sheets of red rosin paper, which is very much used in these types of projects. Be sure you’ll staple it down.

4. The next step involves hardwood floor installation which should start at the longest wall in the room. Use a one nail and hammer for nailing the end of the board down into the joist and subfloor. Then continue with putting down boards fitting the groove ends and the tongue together. Good luck!
